Behind the Scenes: Meeting the Rattan Makers in Vietnam

Meeting the people behind our rattan pieces.

Travelling to Vietnam and visiting the factory in person was about much more than choosing products. I wanted to understand where our pieces come from, see how they are made and, most of all, meet the people whose hands are bringing DaisyRain ideas to life.

Where DaisyRain's rattan is made

Our rattan pieces are handwoven in Vietnam by a family-owned workshop that has been operating for more than ten years. Every cradle, highchair, change table and market stall is shaped by hand rather than moulded by machine, which is why no two are quite identical.

Forty years in a pair of hands

Walking through the factory and watching the team weave, shape and finish the rattan by hand is something I will never forget.

Some of the women there have been working with rattan for more than forty years. Four decades of the same material, the same movements, the same quiet attention. The skill and patience they carry is genuinely humbling to stand beside.

You feel it in the room. Nobody hurries. Everybody knows exactly what they are doing.

How a rattan piece is actually made

Rattan is not simply shaped into a finished piece. It is measured, bent, woven, joined and finished, each stage done by people who have spent decades learning how the material behaves.

Seeing that up close changes how you look at a small doll cradle. It stops being a product on a shelf and becomes a series of decisions made by someone with forty years of knowledge in their hands.

The family behind the pieces

From the moment we arrived we were welcomed so warmly. We spent time getting to know one another, learning about the business, and sitting down together for a traditional Vietnamese lunch.

Sharing a meal and having real conversations made the whole thing feel personal in a way that placing an order from the other side of the world never could. It gave us the chance to build a relationship with the family and the team, not just a supply arrangement.

That matters deeply to us. I never want DaisyRain to be a business with no idea who is behind the pieces we sell.

Why we will keep going back

Being there let us see how the products are made, understand the techniques and finishes involved, talk through new ideas, and begin something long term with the people bringing those ideas to life.

Vietnam is going to become a very familiar place for us as DaisyRain grows. We plan to return regularly to keep working on new pieces, watch the production process firsthand, and make sure the quality and the small details we care about are being held to.

A note on these photographs

The pieces shown throughout these images are not final DaisyRain products. They are existing pieces, samples and products from around the factory that let us look closely at different techniques, finishes and construction.

Even so, seeing them in person made us far more excited about what is coming.

What this trip gave us

This trip made us proud of what DaisyRain is becoming. More than a collection of beautiful things for little people, we are building something thoughtful and personal, made to sit inside real family life.

Little things, beautifully chosen.
