Behind DaisyRain

Courtney, founder of DaisyRain Boutique, with her daughter Daisy Rain

Hi, I'm Courtney, the heart behind DaisyRain Boutique.

I'm a mum from the Gold Coast, Queensland. For the past ten years I've worked within Queensland Health. I love that career, but becoming a mum changed how I saw everything, and it gave me the push to follow a dream I had been carrying quietly for years.

Named for my daughter

DaisyRain is named after my daughter, Daisy Rain.

She is almost three, and she is the reason every part of this exists. Becoming her mum is the thing that changed everything, and the road to her was longer than I ever expected.

Why DaisyRain exists

Becoming Daisy's mum opened my eyes to how much magic there is in early childhood, and how quickly it moves.

I went looking for beautiful, thoughtfully made things that encouraged imagination and open-ended play, without giving up on quality or on how they looked in our home. I wanted pieces that felt timeless. Pieces that could be loved for years rather than replaced every season.

They were surprisingly hard to find. So I started DaisyRain.

How a piece earns its place

Not everything makes it onto the site. Before a piece does, it has to work on three levels.

It has to be beautiful. Something you're happy to see in the corner of the lounge, not something you hide when people come over.

It has to survive real life. Children are not careful and shouldn't have to be. If a piece can't take being dragged, dropped and dressed up daily, it isn't for us.

It has to be worth keeping. The kind of thing that gets handed down rather than handed on.

The standard is simple. If I wouldn't proudly have it in Daisy's playroom, you won't find it here.

I wanted to meet the people making it

Our rattan is handwoven in Vietnam by a family-owned workshop that has been going for more than ten years. I flew over and visited the factory, because I never wanted this to be a business with no idea who is behind the pieces we sell.

Some of the women weaving our rattan have been working with the material for more than forty years. Every cradle, highchair, change table and market stall is measured, bent, woven, joined and finished by hand, which is why no two are quite identical.

We sat down together for a traditional Vietnamese lunch. It made the whole thing feel personal in a way that placing an order from the other side of the world never could.

What you'll find here

Rattan play pieces. Doll cradles, bassinets, highchairs, change tables and market stalls, handcrafted from natural rattan and made for nurturing, open-ended play.

Bamboo muslin. Blends of bamboo and cotton, generously sized at 120 x 120 cm, soft from the first wash and softer from the fiftieth.

Dolls and their world. Dolls made in Spain from phthalate free vinyl, plus the small outfits, bibs and bottles that turn them into someone.

Bows and little details. Soft headbands and clips in wearable, everyday tones.

Beautiful, but it still has to work

I'm not interested in pieces that only look good when the room is tidy and the child is asleep. Everything here is chosen for the version of family life that actually happens. Sticky, loud, joyful, a bit chaotic.

The wrap goes in the nappy bag. The cradle gets moved fourteen times a day. The doll comes to the shops.

That's what they're for.

Where life is now

Life has come full circle in ways I never expected.

I get to share this with my biggest supporter, Liam. Between his two children and my Daisy Rain, our house is full of love, noise and the beautiful chaos of childhood. His belief in me is a large part of why this dream became a real thing rather than a maybe.

Thank you for being here

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for supporting my little business.

Whether you're shopping for your own children, for grandchildren, or for someone special, I hope DaisyRain becomes a small part of the memories you make together.

With love,
